So you've reviewed 5 Signs You Might Be Ugly and have come to the conclusion that you might in fact be less attractive than you thought.
The next step is understanding what it is that might be holding back your appearance. Most factors that make someone "ugly" are actually things that can be corrected or improved. Especially for younger people, it may just be unawareness about certain things that put others off and becoming informed allows you to work on yourself.
At "Am I Ugly" we've reviewed thousands of people's photos to give them an honest assessment of their appearance. Here are some of the top factors that lead to someone receiving a lower beauty score than they otherwise would have.
1. Poor Personal Hygiene
When you’re taking public transportation or standing in other similar crowded places, do you notice bystanders subtly shifting away from you? Are your loved ones starting their conversations by talking about this new brand of deodorant they loved or how liquid body wash is better than bar soap? And do your Christmas and birthday presents often include perfume and other sanitary products?
If so, then these might be subtle hints that your personal hygiene leaves much to be desired. Smelling bad is incredibly off-putting; at best, people will find you unattractive and unappealing to look at. At worst, though, you’ll be perceived as nasty and downright disgusting, causing others to try their best to stay away from you.
2. Bad Hairstyle
Nearly all of us have gone to the salon with the perfect haircut in mind, only to leave with a less than flattering look after mistakenly putting our faith and trust in an absurdly scissor-happy stylist.
A hairstyle is capable of drastically changing your appearance and while having a bad one may be through no fault of your own, it can increase your levels of unattractiveness. Remember – first impressions matter. Do you really want others to base what they think of you on your uneven haircut or badly-styled bangs?
3. A Lack Of Exercise
Here’s the thing – you don’t need to have an hourglass shape that rivals Kim Kardashian’s or a slender figure seen on supermodels like Gigi Hadid and Heidi Klum to be considered attractive. However, frequent exercise and movement are still extremely necessary. For one thing, it will help you avoid becoming obese or overweight, both of which are detrimental to your looks and health, causing a whole slew of diseases and complications that could plague you for the rest of your life.
More importantly, though, a regular fitness routine helps improve the appearance of your skin, boosts energy levels, and increases your self-confidence, all of which undoubtedly have a massive impact on your physical appearance.
4. Ill-fitting And Age-Inappropriate Clothes
The garments that you wear can make or break how you look; ill-fitting and baggy clothes make you appear bigger than you actually are while those that hug your figure in all the wrong places serve only to highlight the features that you would rather not emphasize and draw attention to.
Wearing clothes that are inappropriate for your age or your current situation also adds to an individual’s unattractiveness. For instance, a short mini-dress that leaves little to the imagination would be alright in a nightclub, however, putting it on to attend a professional corporate event would be considered ugly and a faux pas.
5. Arrogance And Narcissism
People like to feel that they’re being listened to, especially if they’re discussing something that they’re really passionate about, such as their career or their family. Constantly interrupting and talking over them while they’re still speaking increases the likelihood that they, along with others, will find you arrogant and unattractive, unable to socialize well with others unless the topic of conversation is about you.
To add to that, narcissism and incessantly talking about yourself negatively affects their perception of you. Now, there’s nothing wrong with being confident and self-assured, however, too much of this can come across as egoistic and boastful. Take note – being full of oneself is never a good look on anyone.
6. An Affinity For Junk Food
The occasional bag of chips, as well as a donut every now and then, isn’t necessarily bad but when your diet consists of nothing but those, then your physical appearance will start reflecting them, as well. You’ll find yourself with bad skin, awful breakouts, and unhealthy weight gain, among others.
If you’re looking to improve your attractiveness, then start by completely revamping the food that you consume. Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your meals enhances your skin and hair, giving you that fresh and healthy glow that many would kill to have. Additionally, cutting down or completely removing junk food, fast food, and those that are high in calories will leave you looking and feeling beautiful.
7. Terrible Posture
Excessively hunching your shoulders has been proven to increase your levels of unattractiveness, making you appear less confident and disproportionate. More importantly, though, slouching gives off the impression that you’re unhealthy and unwell, which many take as a sign that you’d rather be left to your own devices.
Maintaining good posture – which means braced shoulders, chin parallel to the floor, and a spine that neither arches nor curves – is a criminally underrated hack to look more attractive. But while this is incredibly effective at making you more appealing to look at, doing so also leads to a whole host of health benefits, both physical and mental.
8. No Hobbies Or Interests
Whenever you’re out socializing, what are the first few topics that you bring up with a stranger to establish some sort of connection with them? More often than not, initial conversation starters revolve around their hobbies and interests, as well as the activities that they like to do in their free time. Having common ground with each other leads to a better and more solid relationship, increasing your network and your circle of friends.
Because of this, the majority of people tend to write off those with no interests and hobbies as unattractive, boring, and dull. They frequently find ways to escape conversations with them and will avoid introducing them to their own friends. Naturally, being perceived as anti-social and a chore to talk to will only add to how unattractive or unsightly you are.
These are just a few things that indicate how unattractive you come across as, however, it doesn’t have to stay that way forever! Once you’ve recognized these signs, you can now work on improving and downright changing them.
Keep in mind that high levels of beauty and attractiveness can’t be achieved overnight. Rather, these are the products of a gradual yet constant process so don’t be discouraged if you don’t immediately see results. Be patient and just continue to work on yourself; in the end, that will be more than enough.
